Angela Victory, a fifth grade teacher at New Albany Elementary School, was recently honored in a formal ceremony at the University of Mississippi as a member of the School of Education’s 2019 Practitioner of Distinction class.
Since the creation of the award in 2017, the School of Education proudly honors University of Mississippi Alumni who uphold high standards in the education profession and stand out as those professionals who imagine, innovate, and inspire. School of Education Alumni who exemplify professionalism in all areas of education can be nominated for this prestigious award.
Victory has taught elementary school in the New Albany School District for nineteen years. The majority of that time has been as a first grade teacher and most recently she has taught fifth grade language arts. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in 2000 and her Master of Arts in 2002 from the University of Mississippi.
She is a National Board Certified Teacher and was a participant in the University of Mississippi’s Writing Project. She currently serves as a mentor for educators working toward their National Board Certification and as a teacher consultant for the Writing Project.
She is a member of First United Methodist Church where she has served as a volunteer in the children’s department for many years, a member of the Pilot Club of New Albany, and is an Associate Member of Junior Auxiliary. She has one daughter Gina Grace who is a student at New Albany Middle School.
“Angela is a wonderful reading teacher who truly understands how to reach all students academically,” said Amy Welborn, a colleague who served as Victory’s student teaching supervisor many years ago. “She works continuously to ensure that all the needs of all of her students are met whether that be academically, socially, or emotionally.”
