Hello New Albany!  It is Wednesday, so that means its time for the New Albany High School News, which of course is a must read!  You never know what is going on; each week there is something new and exciting!

NAHS had their band concert Tuesday night.  It was bittersweet for the senior band members since this was their last band concert.  Madi Van Zile admits “I’m sad that my last years in band have come to a close, but I am thrilled that I am one step closer to graduating and college.”  The Band Banquet is April 27th.

Last Thursday JROTC had their awards banquet.  At the end of the banquet, Zak Johnson was relieved of his position as core commander since he will be graduating this year.  Arturo Valles was given the rank and stepped up to take his place.When speaking of his new position Arturo said “It feels difficult but exciting because I have to fill the shoes of a great commander who was very hardworking and dedicated; however, I’m up for the challenge.” Major Moore announced his retirement from Mississippi as he finishes up this year as his fourth year at New Albany.  He will continue to Tennessee for one year before retiring completely.  He will be greatly missed!  Many JROTC members received various awards so congratulations to all of you!

Volleyball tryouts have started taking place and will continue so girls keep practicing! Many girls are excited to finally have the opportunity to play volleyball as it is finally being offered this coming year at NAHS.

Friday was state HOSA competition and winners were 1st place in Job Seeking Skills was  Jodi Lyn Allred and 5th place in CPR and First Aid Skills was Savannah Owens and Katelyn Boyd.

Riley Alef, Mason Maxey, and Easton Hall made the NEMCAAB roster so congratulations to them!

Thursday April 26th, the NAHS baseball team will play Kosciusko after their win against Humphreys county 14-5 on April 21st.

Congrats to the Lady Dawgs Golf Team for the first ever Division Championship! NA Golf boys are continuing to state!  Congrats!  NAHS Tennis won over Houston 7-0 on April 21st. They will play Corinth Friday for the 2nd round of division on the 26th.  NA Track is doing well and the following members will continue to state: Chris Brown, Daniel Drummond, Josh Creekmore, Larenz Jones, Cade Simmons, Austin Howard, LeeLee Bradley, Morgan Odle, Kayla Parker, Drusilla Crockett, Dejah Cook, and Boston Newsome.

Saturday was the NAHS beauty review.  Bulldog Beaus were Christian Scott, Zak Johnson, Dartarious Graham, and Chandler Nail. 1st Alternate to Most Handsome was Daniel Drummond. 2012 MOST HANDSOME was Kachius Clay. Miss Congeniality was Victoria Adams. Most Photogenic was Morgan Odle. The Audience Choice Winners were Nancy Huerta and Allie Owen. NAHS Beauties were McKinley Ranager,  Adalis Bynum, Jodi Lyn Allred,  and Morgan Odle. The 1st Alternate to Most Beautiful was Hannah Anderson. The 2012 MOST BEAUTIFUL was Allie Owen.  Even though some girls didn’t place, they were all beautiful!  Congrats!

Prom will be May 5th.

Monday in all of Mrs. Thompson’s art classes, Bryan Crockett demonstrated his artistic abilities by creating a portrait drawing of Lil Wayne.  Throughout the day Students saw different stages of the painting.  First period saw his pencil sketch and by seventh period he was nearly finished. Tuesday he came and added the finishing touches 1st and 2nd period.  The resulting portrait was amazing!  Art students and chorus students have the opportunity to go April 25th to see The Addams Family at the Memphis Orpheum.

Have a great week as we finish up April!  The ending of April means that much closer to graduation for seniors!
