For the end of the year community service project, the 5th grade EXCEL gifted students at New Albany Elementary School designed and painted chairs, tables, a step ladder, and stools to auction off, hoping to raise a substantial amount to donate to a worthy cause. As a group, students decided to give equal amounts to two charities, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Union County Humane Society. Through hard work and a passion to help someone in need, they successfully raised a total of $2,000, and presented each charity with a $1,000 check.
Through their philanthropy, giving of their time and talents, they are making a difference in the lives of those touched by these charities and therefore making a positive impact in their community.
