Blog Exchange - C Littlejohn

Christy Littlejohn & Suzanne Hubbard’s 1st grade class at New Albany Elementary School has participated in an Alphabet Blog Exchange this semester. During the summer, teachers across the United States & Canada signed up to exchange letter crafts. This first grade class was given the letter “N” and students made a nest to share in the exchange.

First grade and kindergarten from across the country participated in this activity. Some classes chose send photos of classmates and their school buildings. Each class sent a letter describing their community.

Schools participating were from Texas, Minnesota, Louisiana, Ohio, Iowa, Kansas, Washington, Virginia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, North Carolina, Tennessee, California, Florida, and Mississippi. Littlejohn’s class was the only class from Mississippi participating in the exchange. Different school mascots participating in the event were Bobcats, Trojans, Gators, Bulldogs, Pandas, and Silver Salmon.

First grade students in Littlejohn’s class learned many interesting facts from the blog exchange including:

  • Louisiana has parishes instead of counties
  • One school is five miles from a professional football stadium.
  • One school is beside a Minor League baseball stadium.
  • The school in Iowa is named after Dwight Eisenhower.
  • The school from Washington has the biggest airplane factory building in the world.
  • One of the schools participating was Catholic; the remaining 25 were public schools.
  • A school from Canada is in the town where General Motors cars are made.
  • One school is beside an air force base.

“Our classroom enjoyed participating in the alphabet blog exchange,” Littlejohn said. “The students enjoyed placing stars on the US map and using Google Earth each time we received a letter. It was a great learning experience! ”
