Christy Littlejohn’s and Cathy Brown’s first grade students at New Albany Elementary School enjoyed learning about the Plant Life Cycle. This was made possible by the Dean Provence Endowment for Excellence in Education grant program. The grant provided the class with various science experiments students could manipulate at school and home. Littlejohn told how grateful she was to receive the grant. “My students are enjoying the hands-on learning activities. Not only are they learning about science, but they are being exposed to standard in all subjects.” She went on to tell how she extended the experiments by encouraging her students to read about the topics discussed, write about learning experiences, and manipulating math activities that go along with the experiments. “This grant has helped make learning fun by having my students actively engaged”, said Littlejohn.
