NAHS School News

Good day to you, New Albany! It is now the penultimate week before exams! (For those of you who hunger for vocabulary expansion, penultimate, of course, is a fancy term for “next-to-last”.) The end of this school year is just around the corner, and I’m sure everyone is ready for a summer of relaxation and fun. But before all this summer excitement begins, a few events have yet to occur, especially for this week.
The varsity football team is continuing their spring practice until Wednesday, May 12th. The following day, the football team will play their spring game at Lafayette. I would like to wish the varsity football team good luck! Also, good luck to the golf teams! The boy’s golf team will be playing at Wedgewood Golf Course in Olive Branch on Tuesday, May 11. As for the tennis team, they are now in Jackson, MS, for a state tennis tournament. Just like the basketball Lady Dawgs, with motivation, effort, and hard play, it was possible for our tennis team to make it this far.
For students who plan on being in band for the 2010-2011 school year, auditions for the marching band eligibility and chair placement for the 2011 Spring Concert will be on Thursday, May 13---AFTER SCHOOL!. Auxiliary auditions (majorette, drum major, percussion, color guard, etc.) will be on Friday, May 21. These tryouts, especially the one coming up on Thursday, are mandatory, and those who lack the effort to not attend, these auditions will be docked off the band roster for the following year.
Frog-A-Nanny will take place at the Sportsplex on Friday, May 14th. It will start with a parade at 4:30, following with games, a cookout, and a dance. Students who are in the Krewe of Grenouilles, be sure to have your Frog-A-Nanny costumes prepared for this special event. The color scheme should be purple, green, and yellow/gold.
The last day to order DVD’s from the nahighscool.com videos is May 14. Make sure you get your orders in to Mrs. Waldrop or Mrs. Thompson. Upcoming seniors who want to be senior mentors at Camp Freshman are reminded to turn in their essays and t-shirt money to Mrs. Waldrop or Mrs. Thompson by May 14, also.
That’s all the news I have for this week! And as Tiny Tim from Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol always says, “God Bless us all…EVERYONE!”
