What’s happening New Albany? I hope all of you have had a good week so far. Here are some updates that I would like to share with you. Yearbooks will be on sale March 1- March 12. They will not be sold after March 12! There will be no extras ordered. Price is $55. See Mrs. Shandi Foster for more information or if you are interested. Juniors, your money for Prom fundraiser is due Thursday, March 25th. Please turn in all Chances and money by the due date to Ms. Criddle or Ms. Lori in the office. The Anchor Club is accepting any monetary donations to help New Haven School. Please see Mrs. Crain. There are still spaces available on the March 2011 Spain trip. Please see Miss Minnick by March 31st for information.
The Beauty Review will be April 17th at 7:00. There will be a Most Handsome competition this year also! Exciting! Students may pick up a sign up sheet in the office. There is a $25.00 registration fee by April 2nd to participate. See Mrs. Foster for details. NAACP scholarship applications can be picked up in the office or the counselor’s office. Due date is March 12th. Seniors: Balfour will be here to hand out announcements and other orders on March 25th. Have your balance ready on that day. ACT Test Prep Workshop will be Saturday, April 3, 2010 from 8:30 - 12:30 at the New Albany High School Media Center- $10.00 Registration Fee. Turn in form to Mrs. Criddle. Deadline is April 1st at 12:00, forms are available in the high school office.
Upcoming events for this week include: March 10 – State Band Festival (Symphonic) – Pearl, March 11 – State Band Festival (Wind Ensemble) – Pearl, NA Golf @ Starkville CC, NA Tennis vs Tupelo, March 12-NA Softball @ Shannon – 5:00, NA Baseball vs Ripley – 5:00, March 13 -21 – Spring Break.
We will begin practicing for state tests this week, the schedule is as follows: March  9 – Biology I, March 10 – English, March 11 – Algebra I, March 12 – U. S. History. Good luck to everyone, these tests are very important! Congratulations to the following NAHS Gifted Art students whose work placed in the 2010 NEMCC High School Art Competition. Katie Luna won third place in color drawing, Morgan Frain and Bobbie Rogers both won an honorable mention in painting. Students from the Culinary Arts class at the School of Career and Technical Education participated in the First Annual ProStart Invitational Competition in Jackson, Mississippi along with 14 other teams from 12 schools in Mississippi It was and honor and a valuable experience for all students that participated. Judges were certified chefs, restaurant owners, Culinary School Instructors from Mississippi and Tennessee Culinary Institute and from the National Restaurant Association.Â
The Girl's Power-lifting team competed on Friday, March 5th at the North State Power-lifting Meet in Lexington, MS. The team includes: Nicki Abrams, Emily Carol Alef, Jamie Coltharp, Meghan Davis, Jessica Driver, Terrianna Driver, T’Airra Ferrell, Lindsey Foley, Sarah Manning, Kenya Mosley, Tomeia Potts, Markia Potts, Martia Potts, Hannah Prater. The team finished 4th and qualified 6 young ladies to participate in the State Meet on April 16th and 17th. Placing were: Emily Carol Alef- 3rd Place, Sarah Manning- 2nd Place, Martia Potts- 2nd Place, Lindsey Foley- 3rd Place, Markia Potts- 3rd Place, and Meghan Davis- 3rd Place. Congratulations girls! Several of the boys powerlifting team will also advance to state. They include: Reggie Webb, 3rd, Zach Hand, 3rd, Shawn Smith 3rd, Luke Foley, 3rd and Trent Fryer, 3rd. This is the first time in our school history that the boys have made it to state. Good luck!
Good luck to Ms. April Voyles and the following students who will be competing at HOSA competition on Monday, March 8-Wednesday March 10 in Jackson: Latisha Kimmons, Tyiah Clay, Bradley Aderholt, Dancia Gray, and Hannah Freeman. Our Lady Dawgs’ amazing season, 32-1, ended this past weekend in Jackson against Raymond. They all played really hard and we are very proud of the girls! Please let them know what a great job they did. I know we are all very ready for next season.

The 2010 Competition video recently posted was submitted to the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association for critique and judging. It was edited by Callie Creekmore, senior video editor and features highlights of the school year so far. We will also be posting a new video that features highlights of the Lady Dawgs North Half and State games with lots of appearances from special guests. Thank you!
