Hello from the NAHS Journalism department! Top Dawg winners last week were: Taylor Goode, Steven Carter, Bobby Coltharp, Kelsey Hodges and Lyndi Stokes.
Thanks to the following people for contributing food to the 4A North Half Tournament at NAHS: Nita’s Eatery, Subway, McAlister’s Deli, Chevron Shortstop, Huddle House, Adderholt’s Catering, Western Sizzlin, Taco Bell, Burger King, KFC, Captain D’s, Pizza Pit, Stokes Supermarket, Tallahatchie Gourmet, Nichols Food and Deli, NAHS National Honor Society, Mi Pueblo, George’s, Bumper’s, McDonalds, Wal-Mart, Piggly Wiggly and the NAHS Cafeteria. . Many thanks to the unnamed parents and fans who also contributed!
As many may already know, NA sponsored the 4A North Half Girls Tournament. Our girls opened up by beating North Panola 84-55 with Micha Washington scoring 31 points. Saturday our still undefeated girls beat Pontotoc 49-35 and play Monday night against Lafayette, whose only loss all season has been to our Lady Dawgs. Good luck to our team as play continues in Jackson next week. We are so proud of you!
In other sports news, senior Eric Johnson signed with NECC as a running back. We look forward to following his stellar career at Northeast.
The Gifted Art classes will be traveling to Jackson on Friday, February 26 to view the Jim Henson exhibit at the Mississippi Museum of Art. They will also visit the Planetarium where they will see “Hurricane on the Bayou”.
On Friday, Feb. 19 Mrs. Ferrell, Mrs. Cox and Coach Davis took their classes to Action Lanes for bowling and lunch. This trip was to reward students for progress made in the classroom and good behavior. Each Friday. Mrs. Cox's Life Skills class goes to Health Trax to work out. Students have a great time each week, while learning the importance of daily exercise and good nutrition.Â
Students from NAHS attended the University of Mississippi History Bowl last week. Three teams competed in the “Brain Bowl”, and Taylor Watson placed second in the Mississippi Studies portion of the test.
The annual Anchor ball was held Saturday night at Oaks Country Club. Approximately 50 junior and senior Anchors and their dates attended the dance. Entertainment was provided by the “Unknown DJ” and was chaperoned by Ms. Crain, Mrs. King, Ms. McClain and Mrs. Ferrell. Anchors are selected each year based on their GPA’s. According to junior Anchor Kaitlyn Cochran, it was “the best night ever!”
Deadline to register for the April ACT is Friday, March 5th. NAACP scholarship applications can be picked up in the office or the counselor’s office. Due date is March 12th. Students if you did not receive a Choice Sheet for next year’s classes, see Mrs. Cossey. All choice Sheet are due Wednesday, February 24th. Any senior that did not come to Prom last year can sell chances and come this year to prom. See Ms. Criddle for information. The deadline to enroll on the March 2011 Spain trip is February 28, 2010. Any student interested in traveling should see Miss Minnick for details. ACT Test Prep Workshop Saturday, April 3, 2010 from 8:30 - 12:30 New Albany High School Media Center- $10.00 Registration Fee. Turn in form to Mrs. Criddle, deadline is April 1st at 12:00, forms are available in the high school office.
