Champions for Children & Communities

New Albany Schools Recognize School Board Members

School board members are people dedicated to their communities. They are neighbors, friends, business associates, mothers, fathers, employers, professionals, homemakers and so much more. They often feel a “calling” to serve on school boards, because they simply want to be champions for children and communities.

For their extraordinary leadership and commitment to Mississippi’s public schools, School Board Member Recognition Week - February 14-20 is a great time to thank them for their untiring efforts.

School board members routinely make personal sacrifices to conduct school district business. They play a vital role in assuring local control over Mississippi’s public schools, helping to maintain schools as places governed by people who know their neighbors’ children -- people who have a vested interest in the future of their communities.

With the myriad issues school boards face regularly, communities turn to school board members as local contacts for understanding the details and decisions that affect children and communities for years to come.

School board members represent a key connection between schools and their communities, pondering issues ranging from books, budgets and employee recognition, to buses, student achievement and school accreditation.

Members of the New Albany School District School Board are:  Dr. Jason Dees, President; Bernice Bailey, Vice President; Bobby Gault, Secretary; Cathy McClinton, Member; Jerry Tate, Member; and Fred Rogers, Board Attorney.

School Board Member Recognition Week in Mississippi, February 14-20, is a fitting time to applaud school board members: They are Champions for Children and Communities!
