Thompson Named NASD Teacher of the Year
Lee Ann Thompson, a teacher at New Albany High School, has been named “Teacher of the Year” for the New Albany School District. Thompson has worked in the New Albany Schools for thirteen years, having taught Art, Gifted Art, and Journalism.
Thompson graduated from Mississippi State University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science in Art Education. She received her Master of Arts in Art Education from the University of Alabama in 1994. Thompson received her Gifted Education Certification from the University of Mississippi.
At New Albany High School, Thompson serves as the chair of the Character Education Program and sponsor of the school newspaper, Maroon and White and the school video “In the Dawghouse”. Thompson is actively involved in Frog-a-Nanny and the annual school musical.
Thompson was named New Albany High School Teacher of the Year and STAR Teacher in 2003. Lee Ann and her husband Graham have two daughters: Olivia, 11 and Elena Belle, 7. Both are students at New Albany Elementary School.
Mrs. Thompson will enter competition for State Teacher of the Year that will be announced this coming summer.
Other teachers selected as Teacher of the Year for the individual schools in the New Albany School District are: Sandy Henson, New Albany Elementary; Leanne Tate George, New Albany Middle School and Billy Matkins, School of Career & Technical Education.
