Hello New Albany. Hope everyone stayed cool and  enjoyed the extended weekend. It’s always nice to have some time away from the workplace or school.

This week, New Albany High School  announced its Homecoming Court. Queen Hannah Anderson will be escorted by Aaron Catt and Dylan Simmons. Maid Erin Michael Carter will be escorted by Robert Franklin and Harrison Harding. Maid Lauren Cavender will be escorted by Will Robbins and KeShaun Ball. Maid Darby Mills will be escorted by Mark Robbins and Sam Kirkland. Maid Allie Owen will be escorted by Rico Carpenter and Kent Collier. Maid Ali Sizemore will be escorted by Jon Robbins and Shaun Vaughn. Maid Farrah Speck will be escorted by Casey Fowler and Dalton Hall. Homecoming will be Friday, September 27.

Sports have taken a couple hits in the past week with the football team dropping their season opener vs. Water Valley 38-14 and falling 14-10 in a close game vs Itawamba in week 2. They will be back in action September 6th to take on the Pontotoc Warriors. The the volleyball team also lost a close game to Pontotoc at home.

The annual Frog-A-Nanny parade and ball game was held on August 29th. Frog-A-Nanny is a baseball game for students with severe and multiple disabilities. Many people came out in support of the event. Several students were assigned a buddy who they were assisted throughout the parade and game. One of those students, Ali Sizemore, said that her favorite part about the event is “helping these students realize how awesome they are and that they’re loved.” The game was held at BNA Ball Park.

The Homecoming Dress-Up Days have been announced. Beginning with Monday, September 23rd students will have the opportunity to show their school spirit by coming in creative (BUT DRESS CODE APPROPRIATE) costumes and attire. Monday will be Movie Character day. Tuesday will be a grade war competition. Each grade is assigned a different design that was chosen by a student council representative from their grade. Seniors have camouflage, Juniors have black, Sophomores have Tie-Dye and Freshmen have Neon. Wednesday will be Twins/Pairs day, for example two Students can come dressed alike or as a pair (salt & pepper, Mickey & Minnie, etc.). Thursday will Maroon and White Day and Friday will be dress-up day. If you’re not sure how to dress, demonstrations will be given for each day at the Pep-Rally on September 13th.

Homecoming T-Shirts are on sale now through Friday, September 6.  Students can get order forms in the office. Also, the New Albany High School Student Council is having a spirit fundraiser. They will be selling items such as Maroon and White headbands,sleeves, wigs, and feathered boas. All proceeds will go to the NAHS Student Council.
