 First Lady Marsha Barbour joined Ford Motor Co. to bring its award-winning teen safe-driving program, Ford Driving Skills for Life, to three Mississippi high schools during the last week of March.
Mrs. Barbour will meet with students at 10:55 a.m. Monday, March 28 at New Albany High School. NAHS was one of three schools in Mississippi and one of thirty cities nationwide chosen to participate in the initiative. Other Mississippi schools included Terry High School and Poplarville High School. “Driving Skills for Life is an initiative that teaches young adults a life-saving method of driving and develops proficiency that becomes second nature for a lifetime of safe driving,” said Mrs. Barbour, who spoke to students at the three school assemblies. “We thank Ford Motor Co. for bringing this award-winning program to three locations in Mississippi and for the lives that will be saved as a result.”
Established in 2003 by the Ford Motor Co. Fund, the Governors Highway Safety Association and a panel of safety experts, Ford Driving Skills for Life teaches newly licensed teens the necessary skills for safe driving beyond what they learn in standard driver education programs. Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teenagers. Specifically, the majority of these crashes are attributed to inexperience in four key skills: distractions, vehicle handling, space management and speed management. “We are extremely proud to bring our award winning Ford Driving Skills for Life program to Mississippi and partner with the State with the common goal of saving teen lives,” said Jim Graham, Manager Ford Driving Skills for Life.
